Airtable is a great collaborative database, and for many teams it remains the right choice. People start searching for alternatives when the base stops being the product and becomes the backend of something bigger.
Signs you have outgrown it
- You are paying per seat for people who only need to see a few records.
- You built an Interface, but customers or partners need their own login and their own slice of the data.
- Automations multiply and you need real logic: loops, API calls with credentials, retries.
- You want an AI agent that answers on WhatsApp using the base. With permissions per table.
- You need the app on your domain and brand.
What to look for in an alternative
| Need | What to check |
|---|---|
| Keep the spreadsheet feel | Grid, kanban, calendar, forms; formulas and relations |
| Customer-facing apps | Row-level permissions, custom login, your domain |
| Integrations | Pre-built connectors and raw HTTP with stored credentials |
| AI | Agents that act on records, not just summarize them |
| Exit plan | CSV/XLSX export, and ideally code export |

Migrating without drama
- Export each table to CSV, parent tables first.
- Import into the new tool and map types (dates, selects, numbers).
- Recreate linked records as relations once both tables exist.
- Rebuild formulas; lookups and rollups usually become formulas over a relation.
- Run both in parallel for a week, then switch.
We wrote a step-by-step for AITIZER: Migrating from Airtable.
When AITIZER is the better fit
When you want the database and the app, agents and hosting together. And to describe the software instead of assembling it. See the full table: AITIZER vs Airtable.

Build it on AITIZER. Free, no card
Paste this into the composer and watch it ship:
Import my Airtable base and build a client portal on top of it with logins for each customer.
- Real Postgres tables you own and can export
- AI agents on WhatsApp, Telegram and web chat
- Publish to your domain, or as a PWA, Android and desktop app
